Management Team

EntreMed’s management team has aligned the company’s business strategy with its core scientific strengths, while maintaining prudent resource management, fiscal responsibility and accountability. The team has redirected EntreMed’s financial resources and R&D strategy to focus on small molecule drug candidates with broad therapeutic potential, manageable development costs, and significant commercial opportunity. Under its senior leadership, EntreMed is moving various small molecule compounds from discovery to clinical trials.

James S. Burns, President & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Burns has been President and Chief Executive Officer of EntreMed, Inc. since June 2004 and a director since September 2004.

Prior to joining EntreMed, Mr. Burns was a co-founder and served as President and as Executive Vice President of MedPointe, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company that develops, markets and sells branded prescription pharmaceuticals. From 2000-2001, he served as a founder and Managing Director of MedPointe Capital Partners, a private equity firm that led a leveraged buyout to form MedPointe Pharmaceuticals. Previously, Mr. Burns was a founder, Chairman, President and CEO of Osiris Therapeutics, Inc., a biotech company developing therapeutic stem cell products for the regeneration of damaged or diseased tissue. He has also been Vice Chairman of HealthCare Investment Corporation and a founding General Partner of Healthcare Ventures L.P., a venture capital partnership specializing in forming companies built around new pharmaceutical and biotechnology products; Group President at Becton Dickinson and Company, a multidivisional biomedical products company; and was Vice President and Partner at Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc., a multinational consulting firm. Mr. Burns is Chairman of the Executive Committee of the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC), a Director of Symmetry Medical, Inc., and a Director of Vermillion, Inc.

Mr. Burns earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in biological sciences from the University of Illinois and an MBA degree from DePaul University.

Kenneth W. Bair, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Research and Development
Dr. Bair joined EntreMed in October 2007 as Senior Vice President, Research and Development. Dr. Bair is responsible for the company’s overall research and development programs and activities. Dr. Bair has over 28 years of management experience in oncology drug discovery, development and chemistry.

Prior to joining EntreMed, from 2003 to 2006, Dr. Bair served as Senior Vice President and Head, BioPharmaceuticals Research at Chiron Corporation in Emeryville, California. From 2002 to 2003, Dr. Bair was Vice President, Discovery Oncology at Pharmacia Corporation in Peapack, New Jersey. From 1982 until joining Pharmacia, Dr. Bair held positions of increasing responsibility within the pharmaceutical industry, including Unit Head of Oncology at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation and Executive Director and Head, Oncology Research Program, Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corporation; and various oncology research positions at Burroughs Wellcome, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Dr. Bair earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Brandeis University and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Cynthia Wong Hu, Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Cynthia Wong Hu joined EntreMed in June 2006 as the company’s chief legal officer and is responsible for managing all aspects of EntreMed’s legal activities, including corporate governance, securities transactions and SEC compliance, intellectual property, corporate transactions, risk management, and employment matters. Ms. Hu also serves as corporate secretary and manages interactions with the Board.

Prior to joining EntreMed, Ms. Hu served as senior attorney for the business finance practice group at Powell Goldstein LLP in Washington, DC, where she advised clients on all corporate matters, including complex public and private financings, mergers and acquisitions, SEC and regulatory compliance, and corporate governance and compliance. Before that, Ms. Hu served as counsel for ING Annuities (formerly Golden American Life Insurance Company) focusing on compliance with securities laws, and prior to that, served as corporate attorney at the law firms of Klehr, Harrison, Harvey, Branzburg & Ellers LLP and Littman Krooks LLP. Ms. Hu founded, and currently serves as a Director of, Women in Bio, Inc., a national organization fostering entrepreneurship in the biotechnology industry since 2001. Ms. Hu is also a Director of Strathmore Hall Foundation, Inc.

Ms. Hu earned her J.D. degree from Rutgers University School of Law and is admitted to the Bar in New York, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.

Dane Saglio, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Saglio was named CFO in February 2003, having joined the Company in April 2000 as Corporate Controller. Mr. Saglio spearheads EntreMed’s interactions with Wall Street about its small molecule corporate focus to improve the Company’s market position and financial stability. Mr. Saglio has 20 plus years of business, accounting, and management experience.

Prior to joining EntreMed, from 1996 to 2000, Mr. Saglio served as Director of Finance for Public Communications Associates, a New Jersey-based telecommunications company. Before that, he was Comptroller for a Washington, DC-based publicly traded real estate development and management company, Bresler & Reiner, Inc., for eight years. From 1985 until 1988, Mr. Saglio served as Accounting Manager for Sterling Software, Inc., having begun his career with Informatics General Corporation, a company that was acquired by Sterling Software, Inc. in 1985.

Mr. Saglio earned his B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Maryland.

Carolyn F. Sidor, MD, MBA, Vice President & Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Sidor joined the Company in 2001 as Vice President, Clinical & Regulatory Affairs and was appointed Chief Medical Officer in September 2004. Dr. Sidor is a board-certified hematologist/medical oncologist.

Prior to joining EntreMed, Dr. Sidor held various leadership positions at Cato Research Ltd., a prominent Clinical Research Organization (CRO), including Vice President, Scientific and Medical Development; Medical Director; Senior Clinical Research Physician; and Project Director. She also holds a clinical staff appointment in the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From 1985 to 1993, Dr. Sidor was Associate Professor and Physician at Philadelphia’s Lankenau Hospital, Department of Medicine.

Dr. Sidor earned her M.D. degree from Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine and her M.B.A. degree from the University of Delaware.
